MARS digitized and cataloged the audio tapes from the Lou Reed Archive. The collection contains more than 500 tapes, including studio sessions, live concerts, demos, unreleased recordings, and interviews. The NYPL has acquired the collection.

Lou recorded “Magic and Loss” and “Set The Twilight Reeling” at the original Magic Shop on Crosby Street. Below is a photo I took while making the record in 1995 and some newly discovered tapes we just transferred.

Special thanks to Laurie Anderson, Jason Stern and Don Fleming from Lou’s Archive team for all their help. MARS engineers Kabir Hermon, Ed McEntee, Gabe “V” Wilhelm, Eric Gorman, Greg Teves and Alex Slohm have been working on the project non-stop.
